The Belleisle Watershed Coalition (BWC) is a multi-stakeholder charitable environmental organization established in 2013 to support scientific research, aquatic restoration, and environmental education within the Belleisle watershed and lower St. John River. Our projects focus on water quality, environmental monitoring, fish and aquatic habitats, riparian assessment/enhancement/management, and community outreach.

The Belleisle Watershed Coalition (BWC) is a charitable environmental organization comprising multiple stakeholders, established in 2013 to support scientific research, aquatic restoration, and environmental education within the Belleisle watershed and the lower St. John River. Our projects emphasize water quality, environmental monitoring, fish and aquatic habitats, riparian assessment, enhancement, management, and community outreach.

The Belleisle Watershed Coalition is looking for a motivated candidate to fill the Aquatic Biologist position. The biologist/coordinator will assist with providing coordination, scientific and technical support to the BWC’s field and office-based projects including water quality monitoring and research, aquatic assessment, riparian restoration, fisheries and wildlife and community outreach projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Physical restoration work (tree planting, willow staking, bank restoration).
  • Aquatic monitoring (collecting water quality data, installing temperature loggers, data analysis)
  • Fish passage assessment and restoration, (culvert assessment, debris removal, rock weir construction, data analysis).
  • Species at risk monitoring and installing bird nesting boxes.
  • Public education and outreach programs (workshops, planting events, school programs).
  • Field work in various weather conditions (rain, heat, cold) and terrain (forest, field, Belleisle Bay, and watercourses).
  • Data entry on field sheets and computer.
  • Assisting in report writing, data entry, social media, and other documentation.
  • Other office and field work, as required.

Qualifications:

  • Available to work in the Valley Waters area full-time.
  • Completed a university degree/technical college diploma in the environmental, biology, or forestry field.
  • Be 15 to 30 years of age to qualify for funding.
  • Exceptional written, technical reporting and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, statistical software, Excel, SPSS or R and social media tools.
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships in a team environment.
  • Enjoys working outdoors, in all weather conditions as up to 90% of the work is field based.
  • Experience with boats and comfortable working around/in the water.
  • Class 5 New Brunswick Driver’s License.
  • asset knowledge, Water quality sampling training, CABIN training, Electro-fishing certification.
  • Own personal transportation to Belleisle and field sites.

Compensation:

This is a full-time 12-month contract position with a wage of $20.00/hour. Contract renews based on performance and funding. A standard work week is Monday to Friday, 8:30-4:00 (35 hours per week), with occasional evenings and weekends as events arise. Position starting in May.

Our projects focus on water quality, environmental monitoring, fish and aquatic habitats, riparian assessment, enhancement, management, and community outreach.

The Belleisle Watershed Coalition seeks motivated candidates to fill 2- 4 seasonal Environmental Technician positions. The technicians will provide technical support to the BWC’s field—and office-based projects, including water quality/cyanobacteria monitoring and research, fish passage and riparian restoration, fisheries and wildlife, and community outreach projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Fish passage assessment and restoration, (culvert assessment, debris removal, rock weir construction).

  • Public education and outreach programs (workshops, planting events, school programs, life at the lakes).
  • Field work in various weather conditions (rain, heat, cold) and terrain (forest, field, Belleisle Bay, and watercourses).
  • Data entry on field sheets and computer.
  • Assisting in report writing, data entry, social media, and other documentation.
  • Other office and field work, as required.

Qualifications:

Compensation:

These are full-time seasonal positions with a wage of $16.50/hour. A standard work week is Monday to Friday, 8:30-4:30 (37.5 hours per week), with occasional evenings and weekends as events arise. Positions starting in late May/early June.

The coordinator will plan, lead, and implement the BWC’s outreach and camp programs. The coordinator will liaise with the Boys and Girls Club Site Coordinator and staff to deliver the summer camp and outreach program. The coordinator will also assist with teaching the camp curriculum and supervising campers. They will also be tasked with maintaining a schedule and program records, camp equipment, and office tasks including data entry, report writing, and assisting with community events.

Qualifications:

  • Available to work in the Valley Waters area full-time.
  • enrolled/completed a university degree/technical college diploma in the education and/or environmental field.
  • Be 15 to 30 years of age to qualify for funding.
